Past Events
On February 12, 2007 Radio Personality Bionce Foxx of WGCI visited our members and spoke on her path to success. Ms. Foxx also spoke on the importance of networking both as a professional and student. She emphasized how students, especially us considering our proximity to downtown Chicago, should capitalize on networking opportunities provided by our University as well as FMLC. She recommends that students invest in personalized business cards, business lines on their cell phones, and the fortitude to realize your goals.
On April, 25th 2006 corporate representatives from Accenture and American Chartered Bank provided students useful information with respect to preparing, submitting, and the "realities" of a resume. The main focus of the event was to "key in" on the specifics that corporations look for when purging resumes. Participants found it interesting to learn that companies sometimes put resumes through computer programs that screen resumes, looking for specific "key words." Without these keywords or the knowledge of how to prepare your resume and present yourself, your education may be useless.
Our Follow-up meeting
This summer, we plan to meet again with these same representatives and sit in "mock" interviews. The representatives will review our polished resumes and individually ask us questions as if they were interviewing us. This workshop will prepare our members for when they are ready to enter the corporate world. It will also provide corporations with an insight of how their future workforce is doing now; specifically, how "prepared" they are.
If you missed this event, you're welcome to sit in on the next one. If you want to participate, have your resume ready.
